Gladliness Journal
================
I am very thankful that these 2 students from my class: DK and ET have made tremendous improvement this week.
They were acting as "teachers" for this week, and clearly projected what I was saying. As I asked them to say something to the class, intially it started so because I was losing my voice back then.
However, when I asked them to "speak" to the class subsequently, they were so overly excited over it, and there were many children who all wanted to have a go at this!
DK was quite shy prior to this, and he could lower his head whenever he approaches a difficult word. However, I noted a marked improvement when he could raise his head confidently and "scream" ( a better word here would be project) his voice clearly and accurately. And I could see in his eyes, he was so excited to play the role of teacher every time I have asked him to.
And I was very happy. I am still very happy at this moment. It goes to show that he has already made that improvement, and I am quite sure that he would be able to speak better English, moving forward.
For ET, who used to be so restless in my class, I have now discovered that asking him to be the "teacher" means that he would learn how to model the good behaviour of a teacher. And I was so glad that he was able to guide other fellow students on the concept I taught to the supplementary class the day before.
It astonished me, and I am still quite astonished by what has happened. I have been racking my brains for a long time, since January on HOW to engage them.... and I think I seemed to have found a solution.
There is a special place for each and every kid in my class to me. Or well, I would always try to find, to try and make a special connection to all of them. It may sound funny why I need to try to make a special connection to them.
I believe in this saying: (or rather this was WHAT had been told to all the teachers when we first graduated from the PGDE course.)
Well, this was what kept me going.... here it goes:
